Interview of Dr. Vittorio Giannini, President of the North Carolina School of the Arts by Dr. Joseph Cutri and Rev. Dr. Orion Hutchinson for WSJS Radio. Dr. Giannini discusses his reasons for accepting the presidency at NCSA ; and his professional background. He addresses the lack of proper preparation and training for pre-college aged talented youth in the United States ; the importance of beginning professional study of dance and music at an early age ; and the role of NCSA in fulfilling these needs. Also discussed are admission requirements ; the audition process ; funding ; facilities ; teacher-student relationships ; and problems regarding faculty recruitment at NCSA. Dr. Giannini compares artistic education in Europe and the United States ; and gives reasons for the differences between them. He is asked for and gives his reaction to recent trends in church music ; and discusses the relationship between religion and music. He also discusses artistic appreciation and its acquisition.
